The authors, Denise McMahon and Christine Wild, spent 7 years researching the lives of their ancestors and found there was a dearth of information available to them on the Upper Murray region of Victoria. With this in mind, they spent two years collecting snippets from the newspapers before producing the book. It has been reviewed by various groups, and the authors have received encouragement for future work from readers.  One review is shown below -

The authors are involved in a major project, Part I of which is nearing completion. They are researching the lives of over 300 Americans & Canadians who went to north-east Victoria during the gold rush years of 1850-1870. Part I, to date, has taken 3 years and covers approximately 140 names of men who the authors have followed from birth to death, whether they stayed in Australia or returned to their homeland. Part II will be researched and completed when Part I has been published.
